Same-Day Wheelchair Transport & WAV Rides Starting at $6.

Onward has received Access for All (AFA) grant funding to subsidize same-day wheelchair transport and WAV (wheelchair-accessible vehicle) trips for qualifying riders in Alameda, Santa Clara, Marin, and San Mateo counties. If you use a mobility device, this program was built for you.

Program Qualifications

Our wheelchair transport and WAV services are designed for riders who need accessible, reliable transportation. You may qualify if all of the following apply:

  1. You use a wheelchair, scooter, or need a lift or ramp to enter a vehicle

  2. You live in Alameda, Santa Clara, Marin, or San Mateo County

  3. You have a phone that can send and receive text messages

  4. You can keep a credit card on file for fare payments
     

No lengthy application. No waitlist. Enrollment takes less than 48 hours.

WAV Trips Starting at $6

AFA grant funds cover the majority of each trip. Riders keep a credit card on file to pay a small flat fare based on distance. Funding is exclusive to WAV trips at this time. Companion Rides and other trip types are not eligible. 

Trips start in your county but can cross county lines. Round trips are available at the same subsidized rate.

 

Maximum trip distance is 60 miles.

Booking a WAV Trip

Booking a Wheelchair Ride is as Easy as Sending a Text

Once enrolled, you'll book all your rides through Text2Book — no app, no hold music, no hassle. Just text your county's number and follow the prompts. Most wheelchair transport rides can be scheduled same-day, depending on availability

Instructions:
 

  1. Text "Book" to your county's number (see below)

  2. Verify your identity — enter your date of birth when prompted

  3. Tell us your trip details — pickup address, destination, date, and time

  4. You're confirmed — we handle the rest
    ​

You'll receive automatic notifications, including trip confirmations, a reminder notice the day before, a heads-up 1 hour before your trip, and a notification when your driver arrives.

  • Fill out a short form — name, address, county, date of birth, phone number, mobility device type, and a few details about your needs
     

  • Onward sets up your account — our team will reach out within 48 hours to complete setup and walk you through Text2Book
     

  • Start riding — book your first trip whenever you're ready. You'll also receive helpful emails covering program rules, costs, and how to get the most out of your account
