Becoming an Onward Driver
Interested in becoming an Onward driver? This is the process.
Application, Background Check and Phone Interview
Fill out our online application. Part of the online application is a background check. If we think you would be a good fit, we'll schedule a phone interview. During the phone interview we'll be assessing your fit as well as answering any questions you have. If we feel there is a good mutual fit, we'll setup a time for an in-person (with car) interview.
Vehicle Inspection, Driver Record Verification, and In Person Interview
In this step candidates will need to pass our 19 point vehicle inspection and certification. We will check your driving records and CPR/First Aid certification. We have local resources to help with vehicle and First Aid certification. We try our best to keep those steps as painless as possible for applicants.
All Onward drivers are required to enroll in and complete a rigorous online training curriculum, including a dementia training and certification course. The training involves learning proper wheelchair transfers, how to properly stow a wheelchair or a walker, how to communicate with the elderly, and defensive driving techniques.
